Getting started

💾  Saving to Upnext

The first step to getting most out of Upnext, is to establish the habit to save content to your library. We've made it really easy to quickly save from your phone or computer.

📱  Saving on mobile

During onboarding, you should have already saved an item on iOS from the Share Sheet. If you skipped it, you can check out this guide on saving on iOS.

💻  Saving on your computer

You can also get our browser extensions to save content from your computer.

📧  Save via email

You can forward your favorite newsletters and read them in Upnext.  Check out this guide to learn more about setting up your personal mailbox and saving via email.

🏡  Home & Daily Picks (iOS)

Now that you saved some great content, let's take a look at our Home screen!

The Home screen was designed to help you quickly find some content to dig into when you open the app.

🔀 Daily Picks: Every day, we select 5 items you saved but haven't completed yet.

🪄 Quick Filters: See your long reads, threads or other content filters with just a single tap.

Recently Saved: The last 3 items you saved.

🏃 Resume: The last 3 items you made progress on, but haven't finished yet.

Quick filters allow you to quickly get to a particular type of content.

We're working on additional features to help you easily triage new saves from the Home screen.

📚  Library & Lists

Let's look at how to keep your content organized in Upnext!

📚 Library

The Library is where you find all your saved content. A row of buttons at the top of the screen lets you filter by:

  • Unsorted: Items that are not on any lists (more on that below)
  • Resume: Content that you started but did not finish yet.
  • Highlights & Notes: This is where you'll find items with annotations.
  • Archived: Archived items are hidden, except in this section or in search results.

🗂 Lists

Lists help you keep your content organized by topic, area of interest or project.

You can easily organize an item on one or more lists when you save it, from the library or when you've opened it.

The organize screen also lets you quickly create a new list. Simply type the name in the search box and tap "Create list".

Lists are very customizable: open one of your lists and tap "Edit List" to add a description and pick an icon and cover image.

🤏 Swipe and More

We've added several swipe gestures on your content to let you quickly take important actions:

  • Swipe left on an item to organize it on a list, or save it to your library from the feed.
  • Swipe right on an item to archive it.

You'll also find a more (•••) button when you swipe left or have opened a piece of content, which provides you the full list of actions (including share, delete, add a note, ...)

🤩  Updates from your favorite people (iOS)

Besides saving and working through content in Upnext, you can also discover new content created and shared by thought-leaders and experts. It's a great way to stay up to date with the latest information on the topics they cover!

The Updates tab shows you all the content shared and created by the people you follow in Upnext. The updates come from their blogs, newsletters, podcasts they hosted or where a guest on, Youtube channels and content they shared on twitter.

Following people is really simple:

  • Tap the +👤 icon in the right top corner of the Updates screen.
  • Scroll the list, and select the people you want to follow.
  • Filter the list by selecting a category at the top, or use the search box to search by name.

The bulk of the people you can follow have been requested by our users. When you search for someone and we don't have them, just tap the suggest button and our team will create a profile for that person. We're adding new folks every day! 🥳

✍️  Highlights & Notes

You can make highlights on any content in Upnext!

📜  Annotating text content

Simply press and hold to select text, and then select the highlight color from the tooltip.

You can attach a note to any highlight, with the “+ Note” button.

🎙 Annotating audio and video content (iOS)

You can create a timestamped note by tapping the “Add Note” button at the bottom of the screen while playing audio or video content.

📝  Making notes without a highlight

You can also add and edit a note that is not related to any highlights, by selecting “Add Note” from the more (•••) menu.

The "Highlights and notes" section in the Library provides you an overview of all your content with annotations.

Oh, and if you're a Readwise user, you can connect your account and sync your annotations.

🔍  Search

The last feature we want to tell you about is search.

We consume (and save) so much content in a week, month or year. And often we want to go back to that article we recently read, or share it with a friend.

Upnext lets you search all the full text of content you saved to your library (including archived items). You can also search your Lists, Highlights & Notes.
